New gridded climate dataset in Finland / Suomen uusi ilmastohila-aineisto

Time: Thursday 27.8. 13:30-16:00

Place: Finnish Meteorological Institute, Erik Palménin aukio 1, 00560 Helsinki, seminar room Brainstorm.

We are organizing a workshop regarding the newly produced gridded climate data set for Finland. The new data set consist of gridded daily observations for the multiple climate variables (e.g. temperature, precipitation and humidity) across the time period from 1961 to 2010. The work is part of the PLUMES consortium (Pathways Linking Uncertainties in Model Projections of Climate and its Effects) funded by the Academy of Finland.

The motivation for this workshop is to provide insights on the new data set (methodology, uncertainty, applications) for the end-users and get their comments and valuable feedback.

The agenda:

13:30-13:45 Welcome words; short introduction to PLUMES (Dr. Kirsti Jylhä, FMI)

13:45-14:30 New gridded climate data set (Dr. Juha Aalto, FMI)

14:30-14:50 Coffee break

14:50-15:10 SYKE examples of using gridded climate datasets (Dr. Stefan Fronzek, SYKE)

15.10-15.30 LUKE examples of using gridded climate datasets (Dipl. Ing. Agr. Jukka Höhn and Dr. Mikko Peltoniemi, LUKE)

15.30-16.00 General discussion and closing
