ACCC-FASN Plenary Speakers 2024
Andrea C. Wagner
Dr. Andrea C. Wagner is a Researcher in Tampere University's Atmospheric Emission Aerosols group. Having completed her studies in Physics and Environmental Sciences, she did her doctorate at Goethe University Frankfurt, where she first discovered her passion for instrument development, aerosols and mass spectrometry. Following a postdoctoral period at the University of Colorado, she joined the Aerosol Physics lab of Tampere University to study anthropogenic emissions and their fate in the atmosphere. The title of her presentation is: "Emissions beyond greenhouse gases: Exploring how they shape our one atmosphere"
Ekaterina Ezhova
Ekaterina Ezhova works is a University lecturer in Geophysics at the University of Helsinki, leading Global Atmosphere-Earth surface feedbacks group. She has a background in Physics of Atmosphere and Hydrosphere. Her main research interest is currently biosphere-atmosphere interactions in boreal forest, more specifically, the links between boreal forest and clouds. The title of her presentation is: “Atmosphere-biosphere feedbacks: matching puzzle pieces”.
Maija Marushchak
Maija Marushchak is an Academy Research Fellow in the Biogeochemistry Research Group at the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, the University of Eastern Finland. She studies carbon and nitrogen biogeochemistry in the northern permafrost region, with a strong emphasis on soil nitrogen cycling and associated nitrous oxide emissions to the atmosphere. Her background is in in-situ greenhouse gas flux measurements, but the desire to understand the mechanisms behind the observed fluxes has brought her to apply stable isotopic and molecular techniques. The title of her presentation is: What do we know, and do not know, about the fate of permafrost nitrogen following thaw?
Joonas Merikanto
Joonas Merikanto is a senior researcher at the Finnish Meteorological Institute, where he leads the Climate System Modelling Group. The group focuses on Earth system modelling, regional climate modelling, and integrated assessment modelling. Joonas Merikanto’s research interests include the impacts of climate change on the Earth system, regional impacts of aerosols on climate, and climate change attribution. He leads the Research Council of Finland project CLAIMS (2024-2028), aiming to attribute the role of climate change on Nordic weather events and forestry hazards. A key component of the project is the development of operational attribution services for Finnish Meteorological Institute as a new type of weather service. The title of his talk is “Climate change attribution of extremes and their impacts in Finland”
