Measurements:

High-quality spectral UV measurements are carried out in Helsinki and Sodankylä. The time series starts in 1995 (Jokioinen) and 2015 (Helsinki) in Southern Finland and in 1990 in Northern Finland (Sodankylä) and can be found in the European UV Database.

The FMI and the Argentinean Servicio Meteorológico Nacional started measuring UV radiation with a GUV multichannel radiometer at the Marambio station (64°S) on the Antarctic Peninsula in 2017. The measurements are a continuation of the Spanish Antarctic NILU-UV network, which was established in 1999/2000 as a collaboration between AEMET (Spain), DNA/IAA, CADIC (Argentina), and FMI.

Research:

Our group focuses on quality assurance of UV measurements and time series analysis. We are also experts in UV radiation modeling and satellite data validation. We collaborate with national and international colleagues in various fields of UV impact studies, such as UV effects on health, materials, and ecosystems.
