Solar radiation calculations from HARMONIE model correspond well with Finnish observations

The HARMONIE atmospheric model is used for short-term weather forecasts and regional climate forecasts.

The model makes use of three different techniques for calculating the passage of shortwave and longwave radiation through the atmosphere.

The study compared these predictions to the observed total radiation levels in Finland in spring 2017. The model's radiation calculation techniques were seen to give good and consistent results when compared to the observed radiation levels, particularly in cloudless conditions.
