Sustainability in the Finnish Meteorological Institute

Sustainability and responsible actions are an essential part of the Finnish Meteorological Institute's mission and everyday work.

The activities of the Finnish Meteorological Institute are linked to several UN Sustainable Development Goals and sub-goals.

The themes of sustainability are included in our strategy. We want to produce information to safeguard the future so that no one will be caught out by the weather. Cooperation with domestic and international stakeholders is the cornerstone of our operations. We observe, study and develop services so that we can produce information to support both short-term and long-term decision-making and preparedness.

The activities of the Finnish Meteorological Institute are linked to several UN Sustainable Development Goals and sub-goals.

In our 2022 sustainability report, we describe our activities related to four Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Ensuring a healthy life and well-being for people of all ages

  • Ensuring safe and sustainable cities and human settlements

  • Taking urgent action against climate change and its impacts

  • Strengthening the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
