Fine particulate matter in urban air can also impair the blood values of generally healthy people

Particulate matter is a significant health risk worldwide, but especially in densely populated areas, high particulate matter concentrations can expose a large number of people. The study investigated blood values of people in good health and changes caused by fine particles in urban air in them.

As a rule, the changes in the blood values of people exposed to fine particles were harmful to health. The health impacts related to the size and composition of small particles found in the air of Chinese city Guangzhou were studied by monitoring the state of health of the participants in the panel survey.

Survey was organised by Sun Yat-Sen University for five weeks at the turn of the year 2017-2018. Health data were linked with the size and chemical composition of fine particles measured at the same time.
