Ship traffic emissions contribute to the amount of fine particulate matter in coastal areas
Shipping traffic is a major source of fine particles close to dense shipping lanes. In a recent study, it was found from wind blowing from the sea that 11 to 19% of all of the fine particulate matter measured from the area was derived from the ships that pass through a 50-kilometre corridor from the coast.
