The weather forecasters from Ukrainian Hydrometeorological center UHMC will work together with their Finnish colleagues at Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki during the coming two months. During the internship the UHMC meteorologists will learn utilizing the modern, automated tools of weather casting. They will also familiarize themselves with a local scale weather research model and initiate work on quality management system.

Major part of the work will be carried out in Helsinki, while colleagues in Ukraine will be involved through remote connections.

Finnish Meteorological Institute and Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center initiated a joint development project towards modernizing weather service production in Ukraine in early January 2022. The ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland is funding the development work through the Institutional Cooperation Instrument.

The project was paused for three months in spring 2022. After the Russian military aggression settled down in Kyiv region the project parties agreed to continue the development project through internship in Helsinki and remote trainings.
