The Young Satellite Meteorologist competition is being held to celebrate Europe's success in the area of satellite meteorology and to mark the launch of Meteosat-9, EUMETSAT's latest weathersatellite.

The competition is open to students aged 15 - 16 years, who may enter in teams of 2, 3 or 4 participants. Each entry must be submitted on behalf of the team by a teacher in their school. The questions relate to satellite meteorology, in particular image interpretation, and are the same for each country.

Winners of the competition will be invited to attend the live launch event, as guests of EUMETSAT, at its headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

The deadline for entries is on Thursday 31 March 2005.
