Carbon Cycle

The Carbon Cycle group studies the biological, physical and chemical land surface processes and interactions and feedbacks between atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere.

Simplified illustration of the work of Carbon Cycle group: measurement data is used in modelling and making projections, which produce support for decision making.

Specific research topics include carbon dioxide, methane and water fluxes and their reservoirs in vegetation and soil, transport in atmosphere, and model-data fusion using advanced numerical methods. The research is based on numerical modelling, from local to global scale with focus on northern regions.

The work is done in close collaboration with the Climate System Modeling and Greenhouse Gases groups as well as the Space and Earth Observation Centre, Weather and Climate Change Impact Research and Meteorological Research units.
