The salinity of surface water in the Gulf of Finland in winter has declined slowly over the past 36 years. In western parts of the Gulf of Finland the pH value has also gone down, which means that the acidity of the water has increased. At the same time higher winter temperatures were recorded in central parts of the Gulf of Finland.
