According to statistics from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, November was milder than normal throughout the country and exceptionally mild in Lapland. On average, similar conditions occur less than once every 30 years. The deviation from the long-term average temperature was about two degrees Celsius in the south and more than six degrees Celsius in Northern Lapland.

The month's highest temperature of 11.0°C was recorded on the island of Kemiö on 1 November. The lowest temperature was -22.0°C, recorded in Naruska, Salla on 27 November.

Precipitation levels in November were less than half of the normal amount in almost the entire country. Compared with normal rainfall, the lowest levels were measured in the south and central parts of the country where such a dry November occurs every 10 to 30 years. The heaviest rainfall in November was in Paljakka at Puolanka, measuring 49.1 mm, and the least amount, 7.3 mm was recorded in Lepola, Lappeenranta.

The mild and dry November resulted in exceptionally low snow cover in Lapland. In mid-November almost all of Lapland was without snow. By the end of the month, there was 1-10 centimetres of snow in the eastern and northern parts of the country. In the West, for the most part the ground remained free of snow.

The Autumn was warmer than average

The Autumn (September to November) was in most parts of the country one to three degrees Celsius warmer than usual. A warm autumn like this is recorded in Finland on average once every 10 years, although the previous comparable autumn was in 2015.

The autumn was drier than usual in the western parts of the country as well in Western Lapland. Elsewhere, normal rainfall levels were recorded.
