Pedestrian weather shows the condition of walkways

The risk of slipping rises clearly with increased slipperiness.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute gives warnings about highly slippery pedestrian weather when extra attention should be paid to the choice of footwear and slip guards should be worn. There may be wide local variations in walkway conditions, depending on factors such as maintenance practices and the volume of traffic.

In winter, pedestrian weather warnings are updated twice a day, at 6:00 in the morning and by 15:00 in the afternoon. The warning specifies the cause and duration of slippery conditions for each province.

In addition to the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s website, information is also available on page 408 of the Finnish Broadcasting Company’s (YLE) teletext service and regional radio broadcasts.
