The biomass of Finnish forests increased by one quarter during the past 30 years. However, this is not reflected in a corresponding change in the annual averages of surface albedo i.e. total reflectivity in all of Finland. In the northern part of Lapland, albedo increased during the period studied. Albedo is directly linked to the energy balance of the Earth and is therefore an important parameter in terms of climate change.
